This barn is 80' X 100' and 37' tall.  It needs the height for the structural strength of the free span building.  That's what is so great about these barns - there are no support poles throughout the barn, it's all free span, allowing us to re-arrange the stalls or pull them out completely for a small indoor arena if needed.

Here's how it goes together:

The first thing they do is pour the footings.  Each block where the beams are anchored is 6' deep and 3' x 3' wide.

Then they lay out the frame work on the ground and put each piece together.

Then they stand each brace up with a crane.

The next step is to pull the fabric.

They do this by putting a rope all the way across the top, attaching it to a fork lift and pulling it up and over the top of the barn and down the other side.  Then there is a series of ratchets that tighten it up at the bottom and make it smooth all the way across.

They put these in by pulling 20' sections at a time.

After installing all the top peices, the end sections are last.

Then to finish off the seams, they hammer the two ends of each section into a groove that runs down the center of the braces.  This gives it a nice, finished look with no metal showing from the outside.

Takes a special kind of person to be able to crawl over the top of one of these, but these guys did it like it was no big deal!!!  They had to go all the way up one side, over the top and down the other side, finishing the seams.

The next step was putting in the exhaust fans.  These are wonderful!  All the hot air rises up to the top of the barn, and these two 4' fans pull it all outside, while creating a really nice air flow through the center alleyway.

The last step was getting the lights & water hooked up and putting in the stalls, and we were ready to move horses in.  We just love it - it's so much cooler than metal, quieter in rain and hail, just sounds like you're under an umbrella, and there's no wind noise.  These barns are rated for 100 MPH winds, so we're ready for anything!
