This is a unique one!! This little girl was our project from the neighbor's across the road. She was a month early. They didn't think she'd survive, and I asked if I could bring her home and try the intensive care thing on her to get her going. Then she could go back home after she was up and running pretty good. She also had a pretty bad corneal ulcer on her eye that we thought probably wouldn't heal. Well, to say the least, the going home part never happened!! She turned into our "poodle"!!! She stayed here with us till she was a year and a half old. James Pruitt and his brother got her to raise other dairy heifers on. She's now in Oklahoma on a grass pasture with other weanling calves and is happy as can be. She grew up to be huge and her eye healed up just fine. Here she is the night we brought her home. Nobody held out much hope for her at this point.
This is when she stood up for the first time (at about 36 hours old). We were so excited!!
This picture shows just how tiny she was. She is 2 weeks old in this picture.
She was in a pet show at a county fair in a neighboring town and won..... of
course!
Here she is next to my halter horse. Kinda shows you just how tiny she was.
Then as she grew, she came in the house..... a lot.... now that's redneck!! Bitty Cow is now in Oklahoma where she is a nurse cow. She had her
first baby, a little boy, on October 15, 2007. She is also raising two
other little Holstein calves and is a very good mom. |
